The Joliet City Council and Chicagoland Speedway of Illinois have signed on for another 20-year relationship, as reported by The Herald-News.
The council approved a use agreement that continues most of the terms of the original agreement that brought two major tracks into the city almost 20 years ago.
The Route 66 Raceway, which sits in the racing complex on the city’s south end, held an agreement that was made in 1997. The Chicagoland Speedway annexation agreement was made in 1999. Both 20-year agreements needed to be renewed.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since the vision and dream of Route 66 Raceway was born in Joliet,” Chicagoland Speedway President Scott Paddock told the council.
The agreement consolidates terms for both tracks which are now under common ownership.
City Attorney Marty Shanahan, who worked on the agreement, said it basically continues the agreement for another 20 years. Paddock described it as “business as usual” for the racetracks, according to The Herald-News.
