Motorsports icon Jack Roush was the guest of honor during Tuesday night’s 12th annual North Carolina Motorsports Industry Awards Ceremony presented by Fifth Third Bank.
Roush, who became the 12th recipient of the North Carolina Motorsports Ass’n’s Achievement in Motorsports Tribute Award, shared the stage with Jim Hunter Memorial Media Award winner Mike Joy and six motorsports companies which received Motorsports Industry Awards.
Roush was honored for a glorious racing career that has crisscrossed the motorsports industry from drag racing to road racing to stock car racing, performance and safety innovation.
“I’ve been hauling my race cars around the country for 50 years and it’s easy to get caught up in the moment and not realize what you have accomplished. We’ve been so fortunate to accomplish what we have and a lot of people played a part in that,” said Roush, who went on to mention Steve Hmiel, Robin Pemberton, Buddy Parrott, Jimmy Fennig, Geoff Smith and Doug Yates — all of whom were in attendance — among others.
NASCAR President Mike Helton also presented the Jim Hunter Memorial Media Award to FOX Sports announcer Mike Joy.
Other companies earning Motorsports Industry Awards were SPEEDSPORT, RACERSITES, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Belmont Abbey College, Ford Performance Center and The Dale Jr. Foundation.
Four students—Andrew De Piante, Samuel Greene, Lauren Houston and Samuel Smith—received North Carolina Motorsports Foundation scholarships, while Brian McGuire earned the annual Sam Belnavis Scholarship.
