Although the first green flag of the 2015 racing season is still a month away, stock car fans are already talking about the schedule planned for Davenport Speedway.

Much of the talk has been about the two new events on the schedule, the REBEL 5K and the return of the Iowa Governor’s Cup.

The Iowa Governor’s Cup, the official stock car championship of the State of Iowa, will return to the Davenport Speedway for a two-day show, September 11-12. The Governor’s Cup will feature the Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series. Also racing will be Modifieds, Street Stocks, SportMods, and 4-Stocks.

The first Iowa Governor’s Cup was held in 1986, at Hawkeye Raceway. The last time the Governor’s Cup was held at Davenport, was in 2008.

The 2015 version of the Iowa Governor’s Cup will have a unique format. The first night’s races will be held on the quarter-mile oval, with the second night’s action on the half-mile track. A point system will be used to determine the state champion. The total purse for the two-day show is expected to exceed $50,000.

The REBEL 5K will kick-off the 2015 season at Davenport Speedway, on Friday, April 10. The event is highlighted by IMCA Late Models racing for a top prize of $5000, on the quarter-mile track. Also racing at the REBEL 5K will be Modifieds, Street Stocks, SportMods, and 4-Stocks.

The high-speed excitement moves over to the half-mile track on Friday, April 17, for the 2nd Annual Midwest Sanction Showdown. The event marks the return of the MARS DirtCar Series and is co-sanctioned by the Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series. The late models will be joined on the track by the Modifieds and Street Stocks.

The battle for the 2015 Davenport Speedway track championships begins on April 24, at the Koehler Electric Season Opener. All five weekly classes: Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model, Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified, Koehler Electric Street Stock, Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod, and Roto-Rooter 4-Stocks, will be in action.

The Lucas Oil MLRA late models will return to the Davenport Speedway on Friday, May 8, as the open late models tackle the quarter-mile oval. The race will be dedicated to Martin Diercks. The patriarch of the Diercks racing clan, who was an avid supporter of racing at the Davenport Speedway, passed away in December. The Modified, Street Stock, SportMod, and 4-Stock classes will be racing for track points.

For the fourth straight year, the Davenport Speedway will offer $2000-to-win specials for each of our weekly support classes. The IMCA Mod Madness will be held on May 22nd, with the Sport Mod Challenge on June 12th. The Street Stock Fourth of July Clash will take place on July 3, and the 4-Stock Nationals will be Aug. 14.

Other special events for the 2015 racing season at the Davenport Speedway include Season Championship night on August 28th and the Night of Destruction on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Racers will get two chances to try out their new rides for 2015. Open practices will be held, on Friday, April 3, and Thursday, April 9.
