Allan Brown, the founder of the National Speedway Directory, has passed away. He was 75.
National Speedway Directory is the go-to reference guide for North American race tracks. Brown, with partners Ross and Nanette Ferguson, purchased the directory from Larry Yard in 1980. Brown later bought out the company from his partners in 1989 until the company was purchased by Tim Frost of Frost Motorsports in 2009.
Brown proudly visited more than 2,300 race tracks throughout his career, according to published reports. He also helped publish additional books, including "The History of America's Speedways Past & Present," "Michigan Auto Racing Guide," and "The National Late Model Annual."
Brown was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame, the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame, and the Living Legends of Auto Racing. He also served as the secretary-treasurer of the Michigan Speedway Promoters Association (MSPA) for several decades.
