"King Of The Wing" Takes Over The West In November

Open wheel, single-seat, high-horsepower, all-out sprint car racing will return to Irwindale Speedway in a big way on Saturday night, November 22. 2014. That's when race two of the three-race western swing for the King of the Wing national sprint car series will swoop into the wide, fast half-mile Irwindale oval only a few miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
"These machines are going to get everyone's hearts started," said the King of the Wing's Davey Hamilton. "They're fast, they'll be glued to the track with those giant airfoils ... and every driver on the entry list will be planning on being the one who goes into the history books as the winner of Irwindale's first winged sprint car race."
"We expect to see some of the most competitive open wheel laps ever on one of the most competitive race track in the country," said Hamilton. "We have drivers coming to race at Irwindale from as far away as Florida. They've all seen this track on television and heard all about how cool it is to run from the NASCAR drivers. And, besides, we'll have three California races in three days for these pros, a full, flat-out racing weekend, just like they like it." the 11-time Indy 500 starter indicated.
Hamilton was referring to the compact 3-races in 3-days Western weekend swing for the King of the Wing competitors: Friday night, November 21 at Madera Speedway, Saturday night November 22 at Irwindale, and rare Sunday afternoon show on November 23 at the brand new Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield. "As I said, a real old fashioned sprint car racing weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday... bang, bang, bang ... what the heck ... we'll rest up on Monday!"
"This is a very exciting addition to the 2014 season for us," said Irwindale Speedway President/CEO Jim Cohan. "We've really missed the sights and sounds of great open wheel racing, and getting a King of the Wing event for our season finale is going to be a real treat for our fans."
Irwindale Speedway is located on the 605 freeway in the San Gabriel Valley only 15 miles East of downtown Los Angeles. Opened in 1999, the multi-use facility has hosted hundreds of NASCAR and USAC races along with being the site of many special events like the annual Formula Drift season finale, the Moon Eyes Holiday Party and four days of last year's Los Angeles X Games.
