The Pirelli Formula Lites Championship Series announced that changes have been made to the 2016 series schedule. The schedule is being adjusted to better accommodate race team commitments and ensure sufficient competitive presence at every event. Formula Lites will release the updated 16-race schedule in the near future.

"We want to make sure that there are plenty of opportunities for teams to participate in the Pirelli Formula Lites Championship Series," said Ryan Arciero, co-partner, Formula Lites. "We want to build on the great racing that occurred at every event of last year's inaugural season."

Jackie Ding and his Group-A Racing prepared Formula Lites FL-15 have been testing the new 2016-spec'ed Honda K24 engine in preparation for the 2016 Pirelli Formula Lites Championship Series. The team reports "significant" performance increases with the enhanced package.

"We are currently developing the 2.4-liter, Honda K24 engine and have shown a significant increase in performance on the race track during pre-season testing without a loss in reliability," he added. "The K24 has proven to be an excellent workhorse and we will continue to stay with it until HPD is ready to release the new Turbo R-type motor."

Honda Performance Development is responsible for supplying and supporting the engine packages for the Formula Lites series. "We are fortunate to have a proven and powerful engine like the Honda K24 available while we continue to develop the 2.0L Civic Turbo Type R engine," said Art St. Cyr, president of HPD. "This new flexible multi-platform engine will become a cornerstone of HPD's grassroots racing programs, including the 2.0L Turbo configuration for both Formula Lites and sportscar applications.

"HPD is ensuring that the development and durability testing of this engine is performed in accordance with the engineering standards that are applied to every HPD product. We are looking forward to sharing updates as development progresses towards the eventual roll-out of this new engine for Formula Lites."

Rafael Navarro, Pirelli Tire North America VP Communications, Media Relations and Motorsports for Pirelli Tire North America, which recently became the series title sponsor for 2016, said of the upcoming season: "Our commitment to the Pirelli Formula Lites Championship Series is stronger than ever and we stand behind the continued push to develop the best possible package for our competitors and the series. We have been very pleased with the increased performance found in testing the current K24 motor both on the chassis dyno and on the track. Drivers and teams will be very excited with the results.

"The progress made by Formula Lites in a very short time from its successful 2015 inaugural season to the development of this series to a new level of performance fits perfectly with Pirelli's commitment to giving drivers an opportunity to develop their talent. We are rolling up our sleeves and are ready for the work ahead to grow this series into the future."

"Having great partners who believe in us and in this series is huge. It has allowed us the opportunity to forge a new direction and do what is best for the series," said Dennis McCormack, co-partner.
