Amid the excitement of the Boys & Girls Club Dirt Track Classic for King of the West/NARC 410 sprint cars, there was a pleasant surprise for Calistoga Boys & Girls Club officials.
The club received a donation of $250,000 from the race in the form of two checks. One was for $100,000 and was donated by Staglin Family Vineyards, and the other for $150,000, was an accumulation of donations from the racing industry and people throughout the country, said a spokesperson from David Abreu’s office.
The donation brings the fundraising campaign for the new building and operating costs to $10.5 million.
“This is a huge help,” he said. “We’ve been running a top-off campaign to push over the finish line, and this certainly does it. This is a huge blessing, a very unexpected gift. It goes to the generosity of this valley.”
Yaconelli and a hundred or so children, members of the Boys & Girls Club, were given free admission to the race along with T-shirts and other goodies. The kids loved it and had a great time, he said.
