Smith will direct the communications efforts of the NHRA, the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series and other entities within the sanctioning body. The position will continue to build upon the relationship the NHRA has with media outlets across the country.

In 2008, Smith was named senior media relations manager and took on added duties including traveling to select NHRA events in a support role. In 2012, Smith transitioned into an expanded role with the company and was the lead NHRA communications manager at numerous NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events and Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum Hot Rod Reunions across the country.
