Irwindale Speedway Contributes To Memorial Fund For Bakersfield Speedway Official

On behalf of its staff, track officials, drivers, crews and fans, Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, California, has announced its contribution to a memorial fund for Bakersfield Speedway track official Steven O'Neil.
 
O'Neil, 54, was on duty at the Oildale facility on Saturday night, August 10, when he was struck by a race car. He died later at a local hospital.

"We know that there was an immediate response from the fans at the speedway ... taking up a collection for the family, and we want try to help out as well," said Irwindale Event Center President/CEO Jim Cohan.
 
"All of racing is really one big family, and our track officials are the people who we ask to keep us safe every night," he added. "Losing one of them is something that affects everyone in the entire racing community very deeply."

Contributions to the Steve O'Neil Memorial Fund may be sent to Steve O'Neil Memorial Account, PO Box 9506, Bakersfeild, CA 93389 (ref. account # 34154).
