Ford won its third straight and sixth overall NHRA Manufacturers Cup and capped the winning season with Bo Butner’s '13 Mustang in the Stock winner’s circle at the Auto Club NHRA Finals.
Points are awarded in the annual competition to current-year entries in Funny Car, Pro Stock, Super Stock, and Stock as follows: 60 for an eliminator victory, 40 for an eliminator runner-up, and 20 for an eliminator qualification.
Ford, which won the first two Manufacturers Cups in 1964 and 1965, scored 6,820 points to edge out second-place Dodge, which accumulated 6,460 points. Dodge drivers accrued more points at NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series national events than their Ford rivals but earned no points on the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series trail, where the Ford pilots excelled at the grassroots level.
Chevrolet, which has won 19 NHRA Manufacturers Cup titles, finished in third and Toyota fourth.
