Lonesome Pine Raceway Introduces New ‘Young Guns’ Division In 2013

Lonesome Pine Raceway, an ASA Member Track located in Coeburn, Virginia, has announced a new division for their 2013 season to help attract new teenage racers.

The “Young Guns” division will be designed for racers ages 14-17 competing in 4-cylinder front or rear drive cars or trucks.

"If we can get the kids interested, maybe get with the schools, and bring it to the track on Saturday night and race," said LPR promoter Harold Crook. "That's what we're hoping to do."

The rules for the "Young Guns" division are fairly simple: They must be strictly stock, with the only modifications being a roll cage, seat and fuel cell. The vehicle also needs to be painted like a NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide or Camping World Trucks series car or truck.

A driver racing in the division must be a rookie and cannot have raced before in any division at any race track.

The “Young Guns” will compete in 15-lap events with the top-three positions receiving trophies. If a driver wins five races, they will move up to compete in the Pure-4 division.

The 2013 season at Lonesome Pine Raceway will open on Saturday, April 6, with the annual Food City Night at The Pine and Kids Night, the full schedule is available on the track website.
