The city of Montreal has pulled the plug on the planned 2017-2018 Formula E season finale that was scheduled for the end of July.
The city hosted Formula E season finale for the first time during the 2016-2017 season and was scheduled to host the Formula E finale again until Monday. Montreal’s new mayor, Valerie Plante, revealed in a press conference Monday that the local government no longer wished to host the race and would be canceling it.
“We are very surprised and disappointed by the unilateral decision and announcement of the Mayor of Montreal,” a Formula E spokesperson said in a statement to the media. “This is a clear case of a new mayor undoing what the previous mayor did.
“Whilst there is a contract in place, we will not make further comments at this point as this is now in the hands of our Canadian legal counsel.”
