Sprints On Dirt (SOD) Will Not Tour In 2020

Officials from Sprints On Dirt (SOD), the race sanctioning organization formed in 1979, have announced the series will not hold a regular-season schedule in 2020. The series will, however, hold one race at the end of the 2020 season, with details to be announced at a later date.

The sprint car racing sanctioning organization also announced that series director Dave Muzzillo will no longer lead the organization. SOD held events primarily in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.

Series owner Ed Kennedy confirmed the news with the following statement:

After much thought and consideration, the SOD series will not compete as a traveling series in 2020. Throughout the course of this year, we will work on a refresh of the strategy and direction of the series to develop towards a strong future. Specifically, we will work towards building a new leadership team and a competition structure that better aligns the series towards longterm stability for our competitors, teams, tracks, partners, and fans that have supported the series throughout our 40+ year history.

We will look to do this in collaboration with other series and organizations willing to work together for the collective good of the sport and all stakeholders.

As part of this transition, we… will immediately begin the search for a visionary leader that can develop and execute our plans for the future. Finally, we will sanction one race at the end of the 2020 season where we will reveal the revised strategy and direction for the SOD series in 2021 and beyond.
