AED Purchases Equipment For Expanded In-House Production

AED Motorsport Products has recently acquired equipment to produce custom Aerotube (aka Streamline) in-house for the motorsports and aircraft industries.

Manufacturing will continue as it has the past eight years, with improved lead times and length capacity. AED has been providing Aerotube profiles for applications in IndyCar, Drag Racing, Sports Cars and light aircraft in 4130 Chrome Moly, Aluminum, Stainless and Mild Steels as well as titanium.

Aerotube will also be produced in Docol R8, once raw material is in the states.

The overall quality of AED's process is far superior to traditional old school methods of drawing the material—in finish, straightness, dimensional consistency and batch repeatability, according to President Al Lowe, who added that many of AED's customers have refined their engineering designs and manufacturing processes to maximize these advantages.

Additionally, he said, their capabilities are perfect for short runs as little as 12’ (5.6 meters) up to production volumes of hundreds of feet.

With the equipment in-house, AED expects to look at greater opportunities in racing by offering non-traditional materials in these shapes, as well as presenting to hot rod and light aircraft manufacturers.

The company has 14 different tools to produce a large catalog of over 225 potential material, profile and dimensional variations.
