IRG Sports + Entertainment (IRGSE), a TPG portfolio company, announced the appointment of Rod Wolter as the new president and general manager of Cordova International Raceway. Wolter will assume his new role immediately.
Wolter joins Cordova International Raceway following an impressive career in the drag racing industry, where he most recently served as a consultant at the NHRA-sanctioned Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Phoenix, Arizona.
During his 30-year tenure in motorsports, Wolter has held various leadership positions at facilities across the country and in England. His resume includes assisting with the construction and operations of Gateway Motorsports Park and other previously-owned Dover Motorsports properties, assisting and advising on the turnaround of Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minnesota, and a continuing role as a consultant at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. The resurrection of the premiere facilities resulted in national NHRA events at all three locations.
"Mr. Wolter has a tremendous reputation in drag racing," said IHRA president Mike Dunn. "His ability to work with organizations and give advice and professional guidance when it comes to building or restructuring a facility is second to none. He is a great addition to the organization and to our team. I look forward to continuing our relationship in drag racing and working together."
In addition to his role as president and general manager of Cordova International Raceway, Wolter will advise on the other three IRGSE-owned facilities—Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR), Memphis International Raceway (MIR), Maryland International Raceway (MDIR)—and two international series—International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and International Drag Bike League (IDBL).
"IRGSE is pleased to announce the addition of Mr. Wolter to our already impressive executive team," stated Chris Lencheski, IRGSE vice chairman and CEO. "His resume speaks for itself and he will be instrumental in restructuring and growing Cordova International Raceway. His extensive knowledge in the motorsports industry will also be an asset to all of the IRGSE-owned properties including the IHRA and IDBL."
Cordova International Raceway features a ¼-mile drag strip in the Quad Cities area. The facility was purchased by IRGSE in the Fall of 2014 and is sanctioned by the IHRA. The historic track hosts weekly events as well as national events such as the Super Chevy Show, Truck Mania and the Ford & Mopar event.
