Clay Valley Speedway, the track in Coeburn, Virginia, previously known as Lonesome Pine Raceway, has closed its gates, effective immediately.

Track officials made the following announcement via the track’s official Facebook page earlier this week:

After many hours of thought, consideration and prayer, we are sad to announce that Clay Valley Speedway will be closing. We want to thank our drivers and fans for their unwavering support and understanding. Each and every one of you [has] been great to work with and we appreciate you all more than you'll ever know. The track was first opened as a 3/8-mile asphalt track in 1972. The motorsports destination remained in business until shutting down in 2017 but was purchased a year later by businessman Bobby Hill, who converted it to a dirt facility and renamed it Clay Valley.

The track opened 2019 with a full season schedule, hosting a total of three events, before announcing plans to shut down. A total of six events were canceled during the season due to rain.
