Doug Boles, the president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, announced that the new dirt track would remain a permanent fixture.
The 1/4-mile dirt track was first installed inside Turn 3 of IMS last year for the inaugural BC39, which honors the late USAC champion and three-time Indy 500 starter Bryan Clauson and increases awareness of the Indiana Donor Network's Driven2SaveLives campaign.
Speaking to teams during the 2019 BC39 drivers meeting, Boles confirmed the previously temporary track would be there to stay.
“That temporary backstretch is no longer temporary,” he said, according to published reports. “A lot of our board didn’t understand short track [racing] at all… But last year was such a success in the fall that we got the approval to go ahead and put [in] that backstretch.”
