ASCS Sooner Region, OCRS Form Sprint Car Alliance

The Sooner Region of the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) and the Oil Capital Racing Series (OCRS) have announced an alliance for the 2020 race season. Both series will work together when scheduling events to support the growth of sprint car racing in the region.

ASCS Sooner Region ran events in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas in 2019, while the OCRS ran events in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri.

The alliance will reduce the number of events scheduled on the same weekend, providing more opportunities for local race teams.

“[OCRS Owner Kerry Gorby] and I have been figuring out a way to make this happen over the course of 2019,” ASCS Sooner Region Director Terry Mattox said. “The series, the fans, and the promoters all suffer when both sanctions are fighting for cars all the time so by doing this, we’re hoping to eliminate a lot of unnecessary frustration.”

A separate points fund will also reward the teams that support both series.

No changes in rules will take place with either series as a result of the alliance. Rule books will be released at a later date.
