NASCAR Hall of Famer Fred Lorenzen, 89

NASCAR Hall of Famer Fred Lorenzen has passed away. He was 89.

Lorenzen made his NASCAR debut in 1956, winning 26 times in his career, and became the first driver in NASCAR history to earn more than $100,000 in a single season in 1963, according to NASCAR. Among those victories were the 1965 Daytona 500 and two victories in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The native of Elmhurst, Illinois, also won 12 times in the USAC Stock Car division, claiming two championships in 1958 and 1959.
