RaceSert extends capabilities of kits for permanent thread repair with Deep Kits

PORTLAND, Ore. -- RaceSert has announced a new all-in-one repair kit designed to permanently repair damaged threads located deep within engine blocks and other critical components.

Based on the company's proven interference-fit thread repair technology, the new kit extends repair capabilities far beyond surface-level applications. While RaceSert’s original Surface Kit is designed for replacing threads in shallow holes of about 1 inch or less, the RaceSert Deep Kit goes further— handling holes as deep as 4.5 inches to accommodate the needs of modern engines.

Unlike conventional thread repair methods that involve tapping new threads, the RaceSert Deep Kit creates a permanent thread replacement guaranteed to resist pull-out, vibration and long-term wear.

“Even the best mechanics and machinists can get anxious when they encounter damaged threads, because conventional repair methods require tapping, which can potentially cause additional damage to a high-performance engine,” said RaceSert GM Josh Eckstrom. “RaceSert inserts take the fear out of that process. They provide a simple, fast solution that lasts—all without tapping.”

The installation process begins by preparing the damaged hole with the supplied tooling and creating a precision counterbore to accommodate an installation bolt. With the installation bolt, users can ensure that the RaceSert insert—called a RaceSert—is positioned at the correct depth prior to installation. Because the repair uses an interference fit rather than adhesives or a conventional threaded insert, there is no need to tap the hole or apply thread-locking compounds.

RaceSerts feature pockets designed to capture debris generated during the drilling process, preventing metal chips from interfering with thread engagement. To withstand the extreme torque required to install the deeper inserts, RaceSert has strengthened the installation hardware for the RaceSert Deep Kit, modifying the installation bolt to make it more robust than the hardware included with RaceSert Surface Kits.

Despite the heavy-duty construction, the installation process is designed to take only a minute or two. The result is a permanent repair engineered to provide the strength and reliability required by high-performance engines.

Kits come with RaceSerts, as well as the installation bolt; all kit components can be ordered separately.

Hardened to 62-64 HRC, RaceSerts are suitable for use with a variety of engine-block materials, including aluminum, steel and cast iron.

RaceSerts are designed to stand up to the high temperatures, high torque and repeated heat cycles of high-performance engines. Their capabilities meet or exceed manufacturer recommendations. They are available in 3/8-, 7/16- and 1/2-inch sizes, as well as 10mm, 11mm and 12mm metric sizes.

“RaceSerts are designed to be harder than the fastener or bolt that’s going into them, helping prevent future thread damage,” Eckstrom said.

Made from S7 tool steel, the dual-tempered installation bolts are hardened to 52-54 HRC.

High-performance engines call for a better thread-replacement system. The RaceSert Deep Kits meet that need, Eckstrom said.

“We’re building 5,000-horsepower engines, but until now, we’ve been using unreliable thread-repair approaches,” he said. “RaceSerts are a better match for the performance, strength and demands of the engines they’re going into. We're committed to making this process less time-consuming and more convenient, so you can repair your damaged threads quickly and permanently."
