RaceSert Introduces L.A.D. Jig for Precise Hole Centering as Part of Permanent Thread Repair Process

PORTLAND, Ore. -- RaceSert has introduced the L.A.D. Jig, a new tool designed to help users drill a precisely perpendicular pilot hole when installing RaceSert interference-fit thread-repair inserts. The jig joins the RaceSert Surface and RaceSert Deep Kits, which include inserts for repairing damaged mounting threads in equipment and engine blocks for the construction, boating and automotive industries.

“The L.A.D. Jig gives you a simple, reliable way to drill a straight, concentric hole without wobble,” said RaceSert General Manager Josh Eckstrom. “That precision is critical when you’re preparing a damaged thread for a RaceSert insert.”

The L.A.D. Jig features two adjustable arms that guide the drill bit during the repair process. In tight spaces, users can operate the jig with just one arm. The jig fits all engine blocks and cylinder heads and works with every size of RaceSert insert. RaceSert offers drill bushings in both metric and imperial sizes, with seven jig sizes covering the complete range of RaceSert inserts.

RaceSert installation begins by preparing the damaged hole with the supplied tooling and creating a precision hole for the installation bolt. The bolt positions the RaceSert at the correct depth before installation. Pockets in the insert capture debris generated during drilling, helping prevent metal chips from interfering with thread engagement.

“When we developed the RaceSert system, we found that getting a perfectly straight hole could be one of the most difficult parts of the repair,” Eckstrom said. “The L.A.D. Jig solves that problem by giving users a consistent way to get the alignment right.”

A RaceSert repair can be completed in only a few minutes. RaceSerts are engineered to resist pull-out, vibration and long-term wear, making them suitable for demanding applications, including use in high-performance engines.

Hardened to 62–64 HRC, RaceSerts can be used with a variety of engine-block materials, including aluminum, steel and cast iron. The L.A.D. Jig is made from 6061 aluminum, while the drill bushings are S7 tool steel dual-tempered to 54-56 RC.

RaceSert kits include the inserts and installation bolt; all kit components are also available separately.

All RaceSert products, including RaceSert Deep, are available through the company’s newly launched online store at racesert.com/shop/, as well as through its distributor, Silver Seal Products in Trenton, Mich.
